Frequently Asked Questions
If I am not satisfied, can I switch and will it cost me?
If you are unhappy with the Switch and Support program or Glacial Energy for any reason, you are free to switch your supplier to anyone of the choice energy providers available in your service area. Glacial Energy, the local preferred electric supplier for the Switch and Support program, has a month to month contract which allows you to leave without penalty.
Does Glacial Energy have peak demand hours?
There are no peak demand hours. The Glacial Energy price is all in per KWH straight across the board – no peak and no extra charges.
How do I pay my bill?
In order to receive the biggest savings while supporting your favorite organization to the utmost, we recommend using the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) option. This will make the bill payment process automatic and without hassle. For more information, ask for our handout entitled, “Frequently Asked Questions about ACH/EFT Payments.”
How does the billing process work?
You will receive two bills. One will come electronically (in your email) from Glacial Energy that will state your usage and charge for the cost of the electricity itself. This is the bill that will be paid through EFT. Another bill will come from your electric deliverer requesting payment for the amount of the delivery cost. This you will pay in whatever manner you set up with your deliverer (probably the same manner in which you pay your bill now). This billing process is to make sure you receive the lowest possible rate for your electricity that Glacial Energy can offer.
Will I receive a paper bill?
Each month, you will be emailed a paperless bill. You are free to print your bill to keep a paper copy.
What is index product?
Index product is a variable product because the price varies with the market price compared to a fixed price. A fixed price is what the utility charges per kwh which is the sum of the energy, all transmission costs plus all of the adders. The adders are the cost plus margin, collateral premium, usage risk adder, price hold premium and hedge cost all built in. This is way too much information but just so you have it. Don’t know how to simplify this
Will I Still Be a Customer of My Utility?
Yes - the only difference is that you will also be saving money as a commercial customer of Glacial Energy. Your local utility owns the power lines that carry electricity to your business or organization and they will continue to bill you for the delivery of electricity at rates governed by the state. The actual electricity will be supplied by Glacial Energy, an energy service company that constantly shops for the best wholesale prices to keep your costs down.
What if power goes out?
If you lose power or if you have an emergency related to your power, you must still notify your utility. Utilities are required to respond with equal attention to all of their customers and they do not and cannot discriminate against customers that use energy service companies such as Glacial Energy.
Will I notice any changes to my service?
When you make the switch to Glacial Energy your electrical service will continue uninterrupted. You will still have access to your usage and billing history appearing on your delivery bill from the utility.
Who is responsible for safety and reliability of power delivery?
The delivery system is still the responsibility of the utility and as such, its safety and reliability. The utility will maintain the lines and repair them if there is an outage or storm. The regulatory body overseeing utilities in your state will help to ensure that the utility continues to provide a safe, reliable delivery system for your use.
